Cookies, Arts and Crafts

Finally the weather has calmed a bit-- though the snow has a thick layer of ice, making walking and driving a little dicey.  Still, things have returned to normal.  Willow had school this morning.  While she was there, Indigo and I made vegan/gluten-free snickerdoodle cookies as a thank you for a kind neighbor who always plows the lower half of our driveway after the plows come through.
Indigo is such a great little helper!  She works so carefully and enjoys figuring out things like how many 1/4 teaspoons we need  in order to  add 3/4 teaspoons to a recipe.  She also loves to lick the beater, of course.

Wish I had taken a picture of the finished cookies because they looked and tasted so awesome!

Later, the girls and I spent a little time out back, while I tried in vain to rake some of the snow and ice off of the roof.

Willow can actually reach the icicles on the roof by standing on the piles of frozen snow
There is no scraping this much ice off
We also hung the ice decoration the girls and I made a few weeks ago.  It looks so pretty in the sunlight and is super easy to make.  We just poured water into a cake pan, added orange slices and other things that appealed to the girls.  One loop of yarn and then we waited overnight for the whole thing to freeze.  This would be really pretty with something like flower petals, or a different kind of pan (like a bundt), too.

Finally, it was time for our art project.  Our close friend/neighbor's daughter comes over once per week for a little art "class" at our house in exchange for our neighbor giving Willow free piano lessons.  Today we studied Henri Matisse.  The project of the day was for the kids to create a collage in the style of Matisse.  Their creativity is always so much fun to witness!
Great day but looking forward to the weekend!
